Sandkassathat’s Norwegian for sandpit

A dad, two girls and a Mac.

My name is Espen. I have worked with apps for almost twenty years. In 2026 I took a year off to make things of my own, and one of the first things I wanted to make was apps for my children.

Not because there weren't any apps for children. There are thousands. But most of them are made to hold attention for as long as possible, and to get you, the adult, to spend money. I wanted apps that are simple and sweet, that teach something properly, and that are made in Norwegian, not translated into it.

My daughters are three and five. They are the testers. If they get bored, the app doesn't happen. If they want it back the next day, we're on the right track.

Sandkassa is the name of our collection.

How the apps are made.

The girls come up with the ideas, and they test everything, round after round. I design and build the apps, with a little help from AI along the way.

I have made apps professionally for many years, but this is the first time I have a company of my own.

From Oslo, a little further.

Sandkassa started in Norwegian, for Norwegian children. Now Pusle, Rable and Klistre are going a little further, in English, Swedish, Danish and German.

We are not a big company. We are one family in Oslo, and what we have to offer is what we know from home: Nordic design, Nordic values, and a bit of hygge, for the child and for the grown-up.

About the company

Sandkassa is part of Sandpapir AS, a small company in Oslo that makes digital products. All the apps are published by Sandpapir AS in the App Store.
